Christopher Smith serves as Trinidad State’s lead faculty in the Technical Theatre
program. In this role, Dr. Smith is proud to connect students professional with opportunities
in the local and regional entertainment industry, in collaboration with Trinidad’s
growing number of local and regional production and performance facilities.
Born and raised in the Philadelphia suburbs, Dr. Smith has been participating in live
theatre productions, both on and off stage, for decades. His career has included non-profit
management, community radio, audio and music production, stage management, arts journalism,
event production, fundraising, marketing, as well as a number of residential life
positions at higher education institutions. Dr. Smith sought and successfully earned
tenure in the English, Humanities, and Social Sciences department at Vermont Technical
College in 2015.
Relocating to Trinidad, Colorado in 2018 to assist with the restoration and new life
of Trinidad’s historic Fox West Theatre, Dr. Smith began teaching humanities, arts, and theatre courses at Trinidad State
in 2019. Dr. Smith is proud to be a steward of the arts community at Trinidad State
and an advocate for TSC’s Theatre programs. Additionally, he continues to write, publish,
and present at regional and national conferences. His next book, regarding promotion
at movie theaters during the Great Depression, is forthcoming in 2023 from the University
of New Mexico Press.
